Grace Jabbari, the former girlfriend of Hollywood actor Jonathan Majors, testified in court on Tuesday that he hit her in the head during a dispute in March. She also said that he was abusive and manipulative throughout their two-year relationship.
The Incident
Jabbari, 30, said that she and Majors, the star of movies like “Creed III” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, went to see a play and have dinner in Brooklyn on the night of the incident. On their way back to Manhattan, she saw a text message on his phone from another woman saying, “I wish I was kissing you right now.” She grabbed his phone to check the sender, but he snatched it back and allegedly struck her in the head. He then got out of the car and pushed her back in when she tried to follow him. The jury saw a surveillance video of the scene.
Jabbari said she felt pain in her body but did not realize the extent of the injury. “I’m a dancer. I’ve danced with a broken rib,” she said. She added that she was more hurt by his infidelity, as they had talked about marriage and children that morning.
Majors, 34, was arrested on March 25 and charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault, aggravated harassment and harassment. He pleaded not guilty and could face up to a year in jail if convicted.
The Relationship
Jabbari, a professional dancer and movement coach from the United Kingdom, said that she met Majors in August 2021 on the set of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” in London, where he had a major role. She said that he was very kind and loving at first, and that he wrote her poetry and told her he loved her. “I felt very loved and cared for and seen,” she said.
However, she said that he became more volatile and controlling as time went by. She said that he would often threaten to kill himself after arguments and that he demanded that she act like a “great woman” who supported his career. The jury heard an audio recording that she made in September 2022, in which he said, “I’m a great man. A great man. I do great things for my culture and for the world.”
She also said that he got angry with her for mentioning her ex-boyfriend’s dog in December 2021, when she was going to meet his dogs. “It was the first time I felt scared of him,” she said. “I knew to never mention my ex again or anyone I had dated before.”
Jabbari broke down in tears several times during her testimony, which is expected to resume on Wednesday.
Majors arrived at the New York City Criminal Court with a Bible in his hand and his current girlfriend Meagan Good, who has been present at the trial every day.
