Dejan Kulusevski is sporting a protective mask as he plays for Tottenham Hotspur against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
The Swedish star suffered a broken nose after being elbowed by West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta in the closing stages of Spurs’ 2-1 loss at the London Stadium on Wednesday.
Kulusevski was furious with the referee Michael Salisbury for not punishing the Brazilian and had to be calmed down by his teammates Destiny Udogie and Richarlison at the end of the game.
Despite the injury, Kulusevski has shown his commitment and resilience by starting for Spurs in the number 10 role against Newcastle on Sunday. He has been a key player for manager Ange Postecoglou, scoring four goals in his first seven league games.
Many Spurs fans expressed their anger and frustration on social media over Paqueta’s escape from a yellow card. Some also joked about Kulusevski’s resemblance to Harry Kane, who famously scored and removed his mask in a game against Arsenal in 2016.
Here are some of the reactions from Tottenham supporters on Twitter:
@Amy-bellxx: Kulu wearing a mask cause he broke his nose. I’m thinking Harry Kane vibes when he scored and ripped his mask off
@gokul_thfc: Kulu with a mask on? Yea Newcastle is finished!
@TjSmith20004: Kulu with a mask on, it’s doing something to me
@tottenhamtymes: Kulusevski doesn’t appear to be struggling with the mask in the opening moments
